Army of Darkness : the Blockbusted Blogathon

I am participating in Katy Rochelle's Blockbusted Blogathon

Here are the rules:

Choose a super cheesy blockbuster B-rated movie(s). Genres include: disaster flicks (examples: Twister, Poseidon), alien invasions (i.e. Independence Day, Mars Attacks), creature attacks (Eight Legged Freaks,Tremors), retro horror (i.e. The Crawling Eye, The Blob), and 80s and 90s action (i.e. Total Recall, Armageddon), supernatural (The League of Extraordinary GentlemanVan Helsing), and others like Battlefield Earth and the first three Star Wars. Here's a resourceful list for inspiration

In your post, include a picture(s) of your selection (etc) and reasons why you love that particular movie. Characteristics to consider may be the sense of adventure, the cast, the script, the one-liners, an nostalgic memory, the cult following. Share all the reasons why you are shamelessly in love with this particular movie; the sky's the limit!

Remember this blogathon is not about "bad movies"; it's about our unbreakable bond towards a cheesy blockbuster-esque movie with a setting, story, or character that introduces or deals with something not from this ordinary realm. (Even 90s action movies break the laws of nature and sane storytelling - so they count!)

My Choice:
Army of Darkness

Via IMDB

Army of Darkness is the third film in the Evil Dead franchise, and in my opinion one of the most iconic Cult Classic films of all time.

Quotes

 Via Panda Whale

It doesn't take itself seriously, which leads to so many quotable moments from lead actor Bruce Campbell. My friends and I could spend all day just using different quotes.

I could put clips and gifs on this post till it the whole of the movie is posted. The cornier the better!

Special Efects

Via Book Of The Dead

This film has more skeletons than the Jason and the Argonauts. If this film was done today it would be a CGI heavy movie. Luckily it was done back when effects where an art form. Like I said from the beginning it doesn't take itself too seriously, so they take as many action and horror cliches as possible.
If you are interested in how they made some of them check out the site Book Of The Dead.

The Pacing

Via Wiffle Gif

The movie comes out of the gates running. It is a continuation of what happened at the end of Evil Dead II. It combines A Connecticut Yankee in King Arthur's Court, the Three Stooges, and frenetic comic-book pacing. You barely have time to catch your breath between the action and the hilarity.

Final Thoughts

This is a B-flick I love the more I watch it. I know that It is sad that I can quote it line after line, but that is what keeps me coming back.

This is my favourite scene in the film.

Who wants some...more quotes!

I would like to thank Katy Rochelle for allowing us to share our love of B-flicks.
Also a special thanks to Ms Mariah for sharing about Katy's Blogfest!

  1. The first one I think was going for scary and came off funny.
After that the next two were funny on purpose.

I like them just the same.

  4. Thank you for participating David! Unfortunately, I haven't seen Army of Darkness, but I coincidentally met Bruce Campbell a few years ago while I was volunteering at a convention. One of the nicest celebrities I've ever met...so there's that. I'll have to check these out. :)

  5. Sound like a great hop! I love cheesy flicks, the cheesier the better. The Engineer does, too. Making fun of them is the best part.
I do take offense at you grouping Independence Day in the B-movie category. It's one of my favorites, it's a go-to watch over and over...but it's an A+ movie! C'mon! Will Smith? I could go on...

  6. I've never seen...any of the Evil Dead movies. But your gifs made me realize...Bruce Campbell looked a lot like David Tennant. In conclusion, Sam Raimi needs to do Doctor Who.

  7. Thanks for having me.
Wow, that must have been awesome. He seems the type not to be full of himself.

  8. HA! Wasn't Independence Day a lot like Mars Attacks, but with a computer virus instead of Slim Whitman's "Indian Love Call".

  9. That would be sweet if Raimi did a Doctor Who episode. Maybe have Campbell have a cameo like in his Spider-man movies.

  10. It's almost not even a bad movie since it's intentionally off the wall. I've never seen it, but the quotes are legendary.

  11. Bruce Campbell has such a way with words!

  12. Yeah, yeah, but that scene where Will Smith and Jeff Goldblum are standing there by the spaceship and Jeff asks, "Can you really fly that thing?" and Will says, "Can you really do all that bullshit you just said?" Then that look of mutual understanding passes between them. So good. Now I need to go watch it again. I do always enjoy seeing the White House blow up. A brand new start to our government would be welcome...

  13. Hail to the King, Baby. One of my guilty pleasures. So much so that I have an autographed poster of the movie on my Entertainment Wall -- Bruce Campbell, Sam Raimi, and Bridget Fonda who had a small role in it, and several other cast members. I only started watching BURN NOTICE because of Bruce.
I would have picked DOG SOLDIERS for my guilty pleasure or TREMORS (but everyone would be picking that one!)

  14. Groovy!
Before BURN NOTICE there was The Adventures of Brisco County Jr.

  15. And between the the New Zealand made JACK OF ALL TRADES. :-)

  16. I am ashamed I never saw that one!

  17. JACK OF ALL TRADES was a TV series that you probably can get through Netflix or Amazon. :-)

  18. I personally wouldn't call Twister a B-rated movie. I think that movie is still awesome. As a matter of fact, I watched it twice just a couple of weeks ago.

I haven't seen Army of Darkness, but yes, that does seem like a B-movie. lol

P.S. I nominated you for the Liebster Award. If you want to accept it, you can find more info here: http://writewithfey.blogspot.com/2014/05/liebster-award.html

    Happy Memorial Day! :D

  21. What a fun hop! I am a big Bruce Campbell fan, well, at least in Evil Dead II and Army of Darkness. My kids and I watch Evil Dead II at least once a year. Classic!
