I might not be a Gypsy, but let me tell you the Future....

What will happen with...

BATMAN VS. SUPERMAN

via Deviantart

I've been thinking, yes I know that can be dangerous, what will the new BVS be like. There are several things already set in place. I just want to touch upon the possibilities of where it could go. Not so much the crazy rumor filed blog of a Nolanite, but the realistic thought of what could be.
Here is my key to reading the rest of the post:
BVS= Batman Vs Superman
MOS= Man of Steel

 Zack Snyder

The Storyteller...

Warner Bro.
Snyder has a way of taking other peoples work and adapting it to movies.
300, Man of Steel, Sucker Punch, Watchmen, Dawn of the Dead, and even Legend of the Guardians. What do all of these have in common?  Story! Whether it is King Leonidas at the Battle of Thermopylae, or Kal-El battling General Zod in the streets of Metropolis, he takes us to where the story is happening. This can be a location, or the characters themselves. Where is BVS going? I believe he has showed us already in MOS. The ending has a traumatic event for Superman. I don't plan on revealing Spoilers in this post so we will leave it at that. As a character Kal-El must evolve he cannot allow circumstances to dictate his existence. While Batman is the polar opposite. His existence is dictated by circumstances. The death of his parents set him in motion to become vengeance, to become the night to be Batman. Snyder will use this to allow the tension to build between the characters to the boiling point.

Larry Fong

The Visualizer...
Snyder and Fong on set of 300

If Snyder is the Storyteller, then by all means Fong is the Visualizer. Larry Fong has been cinematographer on several films that I find visually stunning. 300, Watchmen, Sucker Punch, Super 8, Now You See Me, and even some episodes of Lost. A lot of these films have been done with Snyder. He and Snyder are the masters of the slow mo fight scenes done as seen in 300. I am very curious to see how Batman is handled visually. He Is very close to the Watchmen Nite Owl II. I am sure that Gotham will be included into the script somewhere. Fong does a superb job at creating an environment that is very dark, but not drab. I believe that visually the film will echo films past with same techniques. I will leave you with some videos of examples that I believe will be used.

*SPOILERS*
Don't watch if you haven't seen Watchmen, Sucker Punch & Super 8.

In this fight scene you can see some of the slow mo I was referring to earlier.
very possible Batman Would fight in a similar way.

In this scene you get some slow mo, and a little shaky cam.

This is the full train wreck scene from Super 8. No slow mo, little shaky cam.
This movie was directed by J.J. Abrams of Star Trek, and Star Wars.
Can you catch the lens flares?

Is the future of BVS that predictable?
Have you seen the movies mentioned?
What do you think?

  1. Of all the films you mentioned here, I've only not seen MoS. Um-ah!

  2. Slow motion fighting in the dark on a train - you totally nailed.

Sadly, or perhaps, happily, I've not seen the movies in your clips. Perhaps I need to get out more. Anyway, thanks for sparing us from "Catwoman" The only good part of that film is I recognise plenty of scenes of Vancouver.

  4. I love movies almost as much as a good book.
I like to think of myself as a connoisseur, my wife thinks of me as silly.

  5. Visually I liked Sucker Punch.
My hope is that some of the techniques are used in the new film, just not so exaggerated.

  6. No Catwoman, not the Halle Berry version anyway.
I do like me some Anne Hathaway.
    Wow I rhymed yay!

  7. Great points David. I think Zack Snyder's film style will make Batman vs. Superman even better than the first one. He was kind of reserved in Man of Steel. "Let's get nuts!"

  8. Don't really know enough about the project yet to speculate. Though I suppose if you watch/read fight between Batman/Superman in The Dark Knight Returns and then adapt that Snyder's techniques above might be where it's going.

  9. Thanks!
I think with Fong he will be able to do more visually.

  10. I almost added that point by showing part of the animated film.
You're correct we don't know, but it is fun to try to piece things together.

  11. I love the movies as well--I wouldn't call myself a connoisseur, but I do love pulling them apart and analysing them to death. Good thing I've trained my hubby to do the same, lol

  12. I actually liked Sucker Punch. It was a little over the top, but I was kinda expecting that and took it for the stylisation of the film. Thus, I appreciated the 'art'

  13. Man of Steel is on my list, but I haven't seen it yet. I'm way behind in everything, including movie watching.

  14. I really liked Super 8. To be honest, I didn't know what to think of it but it turned out to be amazing. I love the director kid. He was so passionate about his craft.

  15. I have a list of movies that are must see in theaters, and movies that will be latter small screen viewings.
Most of the time the wallet dictates who will be a big screen showing.

  16. Super 8 was great! If I would of had a camera at his age I would like to have thought that I would be the same.

  17. Loved Super 8, love JJ Abrams. You got me on the Godzilla thing, and now you have me again. I had no idea that a BVS movie was in the making...wow, they'd better do a good job or there are going to be some extremely unhappy fans...

  18. I really liked the style of Super 8. JJ Abrams can be awesome, and then not always follow thru, but that doesnt keep me from being a fan.

  19. I tend to obsess over my geeky things. :)
It is basicly MOS part 2, but with Batman in the mix.

  20. I liked Into Darkness, I just wasn't prepared for the way it ended so it took me by surprise.
I just like to make fun of the lense flares because it is easy to point out.

  21. Thanks!
Ben has the acting chops to pull off the deep rooted guilt, and vengeance that Batman requires.

  22. I think you are right in all of this. Ben Affleck will surprise us with the depth and riveting intensity he will bring to the role. As always, a fun post!
