My first attempt participating in a blog hop
Here is the Goodreads link How To Date A Nerd |
On my usual reading of the blogs that I follow, I came across Cassie Mae's on The Geek Twins.
She is celebrating the release of her new book How To Date A Nerd.
Being the inquisitive sort of person that I am of all things geek, I couldn't help but jump on board with both feet, and a really long scarf!
Some will tell you that the answer is 42. While others will insist that it is Dr. Seuss's Zoo.
I for one am inclined to say that it is the sum of all my obsessions.
My son has high functioning autism. Some of the behavior of people on the autism spectrum is being obsessive. I don't know all the reasons why , maybe they feel more comfortable with certain things than others. I like to tell him that dad has obsessions too,( just ask my wife.) As a kid I was obsessed with Star Wars, and who wasn't, it was a cultural phenomenon. That led to an obsession with Battlestar Galactica. I loved it so much that my dad, and I made a costume out of cardboard, tinfoil, and a space helmet to make me a Cylon.
My wife tells me that the nerdiest thing about me is my laugh. According to her I bust out laughing and I snort. To her defence, before we were even dating, we went with our church to a Metro Bible Study in Houston, and I was laughing loudly about 2 rows in front of her. She confided in me latter that she thought to herself that night, that she felt sorry for my future wife. If that isn't destiny then I don't know what is.
What is the nerdiest thing about you?
Do you have a nerdy obsession?
Do people around you wear earplugs when you laugh?

To answer the question we must first know the definition of NERD.
I for one am inclined to say that it is the sum of all my obsessions.

She felt sorry for your future wife - that is hilarious!
ReplyDeleteFeel bad I didn't participate in Cassie's blogfest, but it was just too much with my book release and tour.
I'm not an obsessive type. I've done the usual geek things - comic books when I was a kid, played D&D on Saturday night - but nothing obsessively.
Although my wife might say my guitar collecting habit is becoming obsessive...
I sometimes think I have too many nerdy obsessions. I love Star Trek. I love Star Wars. I love comic books. I love professional wrestling.
ReplyDeleteIt must be in my nature to be obsessive.
ReplyDeleteMy wife is an introvert, while I have more of a sanguine disposition.
You can never have too many. I just go with the flow. sometimes the flow is faster than other times depending on who holds the control of the Valve.
ReplyDeleteI tend to BLAST when I Laugh!
ReplyDeleteIt startles little ones.
Thanks. My son wants to be Green Arrow for Halloween. All we can find is the CW Arrow costumes. The closest ones are actually Robin Hood. I think we will glue the bland facial hair to him and add a Zorro mask to make it like the comic.
ReplyDeleteSomehow that doesn't surprise me Pat.
ReplyDeleteI can say that when I first got married I tried not to be such a dork, but I failed miserably. Lucky for me I am loved for who I am, not who I think I should be.
People do not plug their ears when I laugh. :)
ReplyDeleteI think it's funny when people snort. I've done it before too of course, but it usually makes people laugh even more.
Laughter is a drug we all should share!
ReplyDeletelol! That's the best story of two people meeting that I've ever heard. What's life without a fun laugh? And Star Wars, yes. Even though I was born the generation after the originals it still had me captivated as a child and into adulthood. Who doesn't like Star Wars?
ReplyDeleteObsessions.... the story of my life. Once I was obsessed enough with a certain British Sci-Fi television series that I tried to knit a very long colorful scarf. I must have run out of wool and moved on to a different obsession because if I had completed it I would have worn it to my college classes.
ReplyDeleteI have passed the flame of Star Wars to my kids. Even my daughter who is 7 likes it.
ReplyDeleteMy son has a scarf his Great Grandmother knitted him. He uses it as a comforting tool when feels like he might go into a rage. It is not as long or as colorful as Tom Baker's was.
ReplyDeleteThat was my favourite costume ever!
ReplyDeleteNow if I could recreate it, with a little tweaking I could use it at Comic Con.
The nerdiest thing about me? I would tell you but the Witness Protection Program would frown! :-)
ReplyDeleteFrown rimes with Clown....
ReplyDeleteI got nothing.Good think I wouldn't want law enforcement knocking on my door!
Aw! I love the story about you and your wife meeting. And a laugh with a snort is indeed pretty nerdy. ;) I also love Star Wars, and the nerdiest thing about me, which I posted on my blog, also involves a Halloween costume. ;)
ReplyDeleteLOL! Roland, that is hilarious!
ReplyDeleteSnort laughers are awesome! (at least that's what I tell myself ;))
ReplyDeleteI want to see that cardboard tin foil costume :) :) BSG is seriously amazing.
What's funny is I had asked her what was the nerdiest thing about me, I didn't expect the answer I was given. I thought she would tell me about the things I watch or wear, not how I laugh.
ReplyDeleteThe part of the story I didn't convey was the aftermath of playing that ensued. Poor Cylon, he didn't have a chance against the armada by himself.
ReplyDeleteNerds unite! I was a math and band nerd in school. Still a math and word nerd. Married a nerd - electrical engineer. I'll go check out the book - sounds good!
ReplyDeleteMath was not my thing, but band was awesome.
ReplyDeleteAw. That's a great story about how you and your wife met David. Unfortunately, when I get really excited (like the new Thor trailer or my son's first crawl) I laugh like a little girl. Thanks for being part of the blog hop! It was fun!
ReplyDeleteHey David, Love the definition. I have a laugh like that. I used to try and change it, but now I love it. Congrats on the nerdy laugh. I think building costumes of your obsession definitely qualifies as nerdy.
ReplyDeleteI'm obsessed with not obsessing over stuff.
ReplyDeleteBSG rocks! I love that you dressed up as a cylon, haha.
ReplyDeleteSometimes what we think is the nerdiest thing about ourselves isn't the nerdiest thing after all. And we can always count on our loved ones to set us straight. lol When I asked my sister I was surprised at what she said too.
ReplyDeleteHA! I just commented on your post about you asking your sister! too funny! Thanks!
