The Legend of Godzilla
via Bleeding Cool |
All day the internet has been inundated with this new image of Godzilla. I had already started a new posting for tonite, when I showed my son the new pic. Immediately he tells me that I need to put it on my blog. Then he tells me to lead with the Legend of Godzilla, and to put pictures of Godzilla in different movies he was in. So as requested by my 11 year old son, who by the way begged me for a Godzilla toy from the local comic book store on sunday, here is a short history of the king of the monsters!
I won't go into social impact that the movie monster has had, or the idea that he originally represented everything wrong with the nuclear age. I just want to share the love of the beast the way I share it with my son, and daughter. She is less influenced by my ideology of Gojira, but I still love her.

Godzilla (1954)
The film that started it all. From the waters of Tokyo Bay he came forth to wreak havoc.
Not the best visually, even by the standards of the day, but who doesn't like total wanton destruction?
An enormous egg washes on shore. Little women, not the book, show up tells everyone that it is Mothra's egg. Enter big G wants himself an omelet. Little women call Mothra, fight big G wins, egg hatches and there are 2 silkworms spraying him back to the ocean. Fun for the whole family, and little women.
My son told me to end with this, maybe he should do his own blog.
What did you think of the new Godzilla pic? Do you have a favorite Godzilla movie? if so What is it.

King Kong vs. Godzilla
This was the movie that I loved but hated. The intensity was scaled back to reach a wider audience (kids) Thats not the problem I have with it. I look back rather fondly of the comedic way Kong and Godzilla fight. I remember watching it and at the end of the film you could not tell who had won. Kong swims off, and you don't see Godzilla again. HOW COULD HE LOSE!!! I heard the Japanese version had him win so I accepted that, and went on my merry little way. Boy I was wrong! It seems that was just a Myth.

Godzilla 1985
I skipped a bunch of movies that pretty much are the same. Godzilla fights lots of monsters, they are all great, but I wanted to share this one with you. This movie I remember very well, I saw it in the theaters with my dad. It brought the intensity back that the others had left. I found this out at the beginning of the movie. After a fishing boat is attacked someone goes to investigate. it is spooky, and had a little sea creature on it that scared the mess out of me. after that I knew this would be an intense film.
Bambi Vs. Godzilla
I saw this in the theater, it ran before Godzilla 1985
Godzilla is Never going Down
Nice montage of the big G set to "You're going down" by the Sick PuppiesMy son told me to end with this, maybe he should do his own blog.

I agree! Godzilla shouldn't have lost to King Kong. That was so wrong. (And obviously I take my Japanese monster movies way too serious. In my defense, I lived in Japan for a few years and was inundated with the culture.)
ReplyDeleteNice touch with Bambi vs. Godzilla.
Really have high hopes for next year's movie from Gareth Edwards. Monsters was an amazing film, especially considering the budget, and I can't wait to see what he does when he does have money to spend.
It's nice they're getting back to the traditional look of Godzilla and not that lame overgrown iguana look from the dreadful 1998 movie.
ReplyDeleteI went to the midnight showing of that piece of garbage. All I took away from it was the Taco Bell commercials with the dog trying to catch Godzilla "Here, lizard lizard lizard!"
ReplyDeleteNot a godzilla fan...but I appreciate a blogger who takes the advice of his children. Mine have given me many a good idea for a post.

Thank you. The time you invest with your kids, you hope that something rubs off on them. It is always a pleasant surprise when they rub off on you.
ReplyDeleteI love Japan almost as much as I love Great Britain! From what I have seen so far the new movie will keep the spirit of Gojira. I concur, Edwards will do a great job with the budget he his given.
