Am I from Mars?

Where is your name from?

Ray Walston: My Favorite Martian
I've always had a fascination with my family history. As a kid I would watch My Favorite Martian, I would ask my dad if we were related to Ray Walston. The answer always was if we were related then it was far removed. I always dreamed of meeting Ray, and asking him if he knew any of my relatives. Unfortunately he passed away before I got the chance. Not that it would make any difference I'm sure that if he did know them he wouldn't claim them. I find it hard to do sometimes.

Walston Mansion Farmhouse

Dad always told me we came from Scotland. I found this B&B on the WORLD WIDE WEB! One day I plan to visit, till then I'll just dream.

I know I can find more at the Ancestry websites, but I refuse to pay for info that might or might not be helpful.

So I guess that if you think Scotland is Mars, then yes I am from Mars.

Or Sontar!

So where are you from? Do yo have famous family members?

  1. I do have famous ancestors, but none that I'd claim. Ray Walston is a great actor, so you're in good company Ray.

  2. I have been told that my family is in reality Heinz 57.

  3. I loved the My Favorite Martian., but my favorite role of his is Mr. Boothby in the new Star Trek. He seemed very wise for a grounds keeper.

  4. I have many ancestors from England, Wales and Scottland. I did get to visit Scottland for a couple days many years ago. I'd love to go back. I'm related to king Duncan, the one Macbeth killed.

  5. There's no one really famous in our family that I know of, but I do have a relative on my grandmother's side who married the founder of Gettysburg, PA. Would like to know more about our history, but like you, don't really want to pay the ancestry sites to find out.

Thanks so much for stopping by my blog for Alex's interview. It's great to meet you!

  7. Thankfully I have some relatives that are obsessed with family history, so I can glean a lot from them and don't have to fork over for access to the websites. Not that I have anyone particularly interesting in my family--just a few Scotsmen/Aliens :)

  9. I am the last of my clan. But there is a story behind my name. ROLAND my mother chose from the French epic poem, "The Song of Roland." His best friend and his men died because Roland was too proud to ask for help. Mother wanted me to know humility was a strength that would help others. DURAND, my middle name, is drawn from Roland's sword, DURANDAL -- it was strong but flexible so that it could withstand blows that would shatter other swords. As for YEOMANS -- they're those poor chaps in the red shirts that always died in STARK TREK!

  13. There's a Walston Mansion Farmhouse? Now that's pretty cool! I know there's nothing like that with my maiden name, which isn't really Fey. ;) I am Russian and German. And I do . . . sort of have a famous family member through marriage . . . but I'm not revealing THAT until later. ;)

  14. My maiden name is German, but no interesting ancestors as far as I know. One of my ancestors on my mother's side, however, was one of the founders of a town near Boston. Supposedly there's a statue of him or in his honor there. That was a long time ago. Cool about the Walston B&B.

  15. Statues are nice, but I know all the detestable things I did in college at the quad....*shiver*
    I would rather a plaque.

Aha, and to the theme song from the Walston's, oops, got that wrong. Anyway, I am from Chelsea in London, England. I lived a good portion of my life in Vancouver, Canada. I am very mixed up. Apparently, one of my family members, way back when, invented a horseshoe.

You need to get yourself over to Scotland. I shall organise the parade in your honour, or honor.

  18. I would love to cross the pond...not Amy...
I'm afraid that when the day comes that I do get to the UK I might not want to come back!

  19. I am related to George Jones. My mom is in a picture in one of his biographies. She attended the same church he did as a kid.

  20. Scotland might be near Mars. Our family is typical American mutt origin with Ireland, Germany and British on one side and the Scottish on the other.

  21. Scotland might as well be Mars as far as it is from me.
I might have said this already..
Heinz 57...America the great melting pot.

  22. My name has Irish roots although my family comes from Chicago. Sorry, I guess I've never explored beyond that.
You really need to go visit that mansion. All of Scotland, really. Beautiful country.

  23. The closest I came to visiting, was when a friend of mine was dating someone from Edinburgh she met online. We had great conversations on life, and things from Scotland. I think I had a Bromance with him.

  24. I let my sister handle the genealogy stuff. I don't think she's found much interesting. No one really famous. Mostly I think my family is a mix of German and English with some other crap thrown into the mix.

  25. Sweet! I love history, and it is nice when it can relate to us.
    *Pun Intended!*
